There’s a me born somewhere in another country,
With a different set of hardships
Maybe even a different set of triumphs,
(Some may say that seems unlikely)
Maybe somewhere I’m struggling to fit in-
While somewhere else I struggle to breathe
Yet somewhere else I might not even get a chance to live-
Another life, another location
Might define me into someone else entirely
Maybe that me is neurotypical
Maybe that me is not allowed to step into the sun
Maybe that me has PTSD from bolts and guns
Maybe that me is a PhD-
Choices, circumstances, biology, sociology, culture, geography
All play a part in the plot of our stories-
Would Han Solo be a space smuggler
Had he been born a Jedi?
What if Leia was left to Tatooine sands and the love of Aunt Beru
And instead went to rescue
Prince Luke, leader of the Organa troops-
And that’s why we write, and re-construct
To explore different realities
To somehow showcase what we live
To wider humanity-
Because what we have today is circumstance and choice and work-
Our looses and wins both a mosaic of life
Created by factors many-
And yet, we often forget that-
Because ape brains can only hold so much memory-
So when you remember, be a little kinder
For you don’t know,
Whether it was choice or biology or geography
That created someone’s unique happiness, someone’s unique misery.
Author’s note: Hope this added value to your life and reminded you to be kind to yourself and others. To read more of my work, you can check out our store or Muses_Saga, which also has the latest anthology I wrote in, Prithvi.
