Where do women go to seek solace?
To the arms of their sisters
The wretched, the beautiful, the successful, the abandoned
The burnt out elder daughters finally smile
The mom friend lets loose for a while
When society shuns their voice
Damned if they do, condemned if they don’t
Where then, do women go to find solace?
In the arms of their sisters-
Damned and condemned like them
But still there, still alive,
Burning bright, flickering yet alight-
Like a streetlight in the night.
From the victim at stake
To the victim at the candle march
Where do we go to find solace?
To our sisters we march
Together, alone, happy, sad, tired, magnificent, and
Simply women, beautifully human.

Author’s Note: This is a poem inspired by an Instagram story I saw that asked where do women go to find solace and I was reminded of the “gossip” sessions where my friends, found family, and I provided comfort, support, encouragement about careers, relationships, family, and so much more. Yes, boundaries and mutual respect are important but these sessions are formed on that, where we don’t “b*tch” but rant and hope to grow as people, as women. And this is my thank you to all the women who life me up. Let’s climb the ladder of life as a team ladies. And everyone else is welcome to join! I hope this poem added a spark to your day. If it did, please consider leaving me a share or a comment, and if you want to read more of my works on relationships between women, in particular relationships between mums and daughters who are deemed difficult- head over to Maa, available as recycled paper paper-back, e-books, and pay what you want online reading.
