Red in the Ledger

They said vampires would suck you dry
So I learned to fear the streets at night
Clutching pepper spray, I would brave the dark,
Praying to my god,
Knowing prudence would keep me alive.
(Naive)

Yet they never told me
Monsters don’t sweep dark streets only
Even those that appear bright,
Dancing in the sunlight
Can bleed your dry,
Once you’re caught in their web of deceit and lies
Little fly.

They’ll look pretty, they’ll seem safe,
Their fangs they’ll call anomalies
Their pathological avoidance of ginger an allergy
Mirrors? They’ve poor self-esteem!

Are you trapped yet?
Into the false sense of security
They’ll you lull.

Are you trapped yet?
Once you are in,
They’ll unleash their evil.
For monsters who come out at night?
Will sink their fangs in you once.
Those that walk the streets when the sun’s bright?
Will food up you, pour you down
Make you your own reality doubt,
Great as gold one day
Making you feel their lies are the true way
Leading you astray,
Horrid as purgatory the next
When their true colors are on display!

Making you wonder
What’s actually really
And trapping your further
Little fly
In their web of deceit and lies-
Until you don’t even realize
When you’ve lost the plot
Crying on the floor,
Hair in disarray, wondering
Oh dear, when did they suck me dry?!?!
