Helplessness

A new day. A new poem.

Beta, some things in the world are complex with dire consequences,
Beta, you have to be prepared for that.

My mother’s words ring in my ears,
Oh to be young and safe and not understand what she meant,
I wish I could go back to that ignorance
But how can I?

When now my eyes do see the meaning of her wisdom
The sheer complexity of people?

I stand helpless, wanting to make the world a better place,
But paralyzed by the consequences I can’t foresee
Crippled by the guilt of my inability
To know everything, to help, to always make the right choice,
In a world so complex,
That there is rarely black and white

Until in hindsight.
