Break

once upon a time,

in a land far far away,

a warrior began a quest,

a quest for wisdom, to gain tranquility.

“it shows your biggest flaw, your greatest strength,”

the legend, as legends tend to be, was a mystery.

the mystical temple, the warrior reached,

its floor was stone they had never felt or seen,

they stood strong yet on a vigilant leash,

wondering what answers, it held for those no longer green.

“none but those seasoned can find it, it evades those filled with naivety”

the legend, as legends tend to be, was a mystery.

in front of them stood a giant monkey like being, armored, fierce,

the warrior respectfully bent their knee.

for it took strength to know when to retreat,

the ape had gone, it was looking from the past,

it was who they had been, bumbling through victories,

only seeking momentary glory, never noticing inner peace,

now they knew why the temple evaded those who were yet green,

for the not yet tranquil monks would seek no glory,

for the new solider would seek no peace,

the temple was a place of balance,

where you past faced your current being- as it evolved into a new thing,

how could the unseasoned understand?

it was not age alone, but experience- experience of being a living being.

once upon a time, in a land far far away,

a warrior took a day’s break.

Poet’s Note- This was written based on a prompt given by @_pen_dragon and @verseitcouldbe for NanoWrimo Poetry. This is also one of the possible poems for a new book by @muses_saga. Also the poem is talking about experience and growth- which can happen in any way at any age to anyone. I am not trying to be ageist here, though, age does bring a certain amount of maturity, it is mostly experience and world-view. As always, if I have said something problematic, do let me know and I will try to change it.
