Pause. Breathe.

A poem on taking a break. Slightly inspired by Finding Sanity by Isabelle Dury.

Hey you! You there.

You have been running a while,

With that red face, and huffing breaths,

Are you well?

The rat race is a necessity to survive, yes,

But it too allows for some small joys,

Get off the wheel once in a while,

Leave unnecessary consumption behind.

Press pause.

The world will be here when you return,

Escape into fantasy, dance to some music.

When was the last time you called grandmom?

Yes, shopping can fill your heart-

You should go-

But on the way, don’t forget

To bask in the sun’s glow.

Hear the birds sing,

And then come back to the laptop screen,

Draw a little or write or sing,

Create perhaps, or just sleep.

Rest makes you more productive,

And if the rat race is your fate,

Who says you have to constantly bow to destiny’s will?

Rebel, a little. Live, a little.

The wheel will wait for you,

You might be behind for a while,

But if you can afford it, you might just be richer in life.

Press pause. Breathe a little.
