If the sun dipped a little lower-
Kissed the sky a little longer-
Playing with hues like nature’s Van Gogh,
If the stars shined a little brighter-
Even on brightly light nights-
Setting light on fire, like natural crackers,
Would we appreciate them more?
If the waves lapped our feet and felt like Egyptian cotton sheets-
But wait,
If nature did all that
(and it does more by the way)
The lovers would say
Nature is the only equivalent to their love’s beauty
(I know this because the same I often say
My lover might not be your aesthetic
But a heart filled with love often only finds diamonds, and treasure
In the visage of their loved ones.)
If nature did all that-
(And it does more mind you.)
The artists would copy it on their canvas, in their words,
In their dancing feet
(Yet, don’t they already?)
If nature did all that
(And why should it
When it does enough already,
Despite its cruelty)
If nature did all that,
We would simply ask for more
And say,
Yes,
We will stand for the Earth
When this extra it does
(Except the Earth is the ultimate boss-
It survived the end of the dinosaurs
It’ll bid us farewell too
Long before it’s end is even heralded.)
It’s our comforts and well-being we must protect
And that of our descendents
Even if it means sacrificing some of the more frivolous comforts
When possible for you and me-
Not because the species requires a lot of us standing
But because if we don’t give an inch
The raging razing Earth will take a mile when it comes calling.
