Help- A Poem on Humanity

People help people,
That is a fact universally known,
Like hot tea in the morning in an Indian household
The smile of a friend is a memory to behold
Looked forward to like Spotify Wrapped
At the end of the day, communities are what keep us afloat.

Yes, it is necessary to charge for your services- survival in a capitalistic world,
But there are times when we can just hone a craft, lend a hand,
And you excel at that,
In providing support where you can,
So take this lesson ahead,
Put yourself first
But never loose the heart
Never shrug off the community which made you feel like you belonged.

Oh, and here’s another tip
Since you are here, on a screen,
Touch the grass once in a while
To see the world beyond this screen
(Though I appreciate you being here, truly I do
And poetry is good for the soul too)
But do see, and share if you that gives you joy true,
The world outside our 14″ metal boxes,
For it is beautiful, especially so
To a heart so kind and serene
Like you.

Author’s Note: I often struggle with charging for the work I do and sometimes when people do me work favors, I feel confused. Without payment, how do I process their help? So I write poems for both situations. And this one is dedicated to a fan who became a friend, who insisted it be dedicated to humans at large.
