I sat with my friends,
A DM in the corner,
Weaving a story
A fairy-tale,
(A dream come true for me,
Slightly boring but epic still.)
I sat behind my laptop,
The writing class ongoing,
Where I learned the history of knights in fiction-
(And how Shrek is an important movie
For those who lives dragons and princesses)
I sat. I dreamed. I cried.
I wrote. I weaved. I smiled.
Was I the princess?
(I loved pretty things- but isn’t that diminishing the princess to an object of beauty?
Or was she appreciative of art,
Maybe she was an artist!)
Was I the dragon?
(On days where past flaws and mistakes would surface- I would consider the question,
Maybe I am a bad person- but aren’t such labels reductive,
And why should the dragon always play the antagonist,
Can’t the knight take the fall for once?)
Could I be the knight?
(Grow better each day, be an ideal?
Yet, isn’t that sometimes unhealthy
And also, shouldn’t knights care for themselves too?”)
At the end, I can be all three, I am all three-
Somedays, I am beauty, somedays I feel like the beast,
The goal is to try to better myself each day
Take rest when the need comes knocking
Forgive my mistakes that others whom I hurt have forgiven or let go off
But carry the lessons
And never cause harm
Yet always value myself too.
New pages in life
Are not devoid of fairytales
Nor are they devoid of the lessons carried within.
