Trigger Warning- Animal Agriculture

I stare and stare at the screen,

Waiting for my mind to yield something-

All it yields is questions and fears-

(Did you know chickens can dream?

Does that mean they have imagination too?

With every bite am I stealing?

The dreams of someone, the thoughts, the stories?

Well, I am vegan- it’s okay-

But do plants tell stories too?

No, they don’t have the brains for that…

But those who need to eat chicken for health-

What about them?

Well, that’s their life, I suppose,

The world’s not perfect,

Let’s do the best we can)

And so, the blank page remains, my heart continues to pound,

Thoughts therapy had eradicated circle around

And I win another battle against the demons in my mind

That would hold me responsible for the entire world’s actions, hopes, and crimes.
