We are those that girl-bossed too close to the sun,
Internalized misogyny
In the guise of girl power,
The patriarchy tightened its hold on us,
While we fought for the freedom to earn and be independent
Wear what we want
Say what we desired
We forgot to take off the heels
Let down our hair
And ask for help
Because I can do what he can
Turned into toxic masculinity seeping into femininity
We would cook and clean and raise the children
While killing it in the office
And burnt ourselves out
Like Icarus
Girl-bossing too close to the sun,
Never dolled up for men
We forgot to dress up if we wanted to
We went so far to the other side
We forgot to honour choices of our fellow sisters
Women
And ourselves,
Like Icarus
We flew
Like Icarus
We fall
The grip of the patriarchy
Falling finally short
With us realizing feminism
Means I can do what I want!
Author’s Note: Happy festive season! Sorry for the sporadic updates, I have recently inflamed a disc injury. Yipee? Jokes aside, if you like my work, consider sharing or reading more of it on Anjali Roongta and Muses_Saga.
