Love like a tomb
Suffocating my scratching hands-
Coughing mouth
Stuffed shut with guilt and lies
But it’s love, so are their cries-
As fingers wedge into my ribs
Asking me to make myself smaller
To become invisible
Stop fighting for air
And disappear.
But it’s love,
Love’s toxic embrace
(But is there any love without respect?)
Author’s Note: Sometimes the people who love us hurt us. And sometimes they try to change for the better but many don’t, instead guilting us. Therapy helps us deal with such situations as each of us faces unique problems and what might work for one might not be for another because we should never harm ourselves or others, especially in the name of love even if forgiveness and growth are virtues. While I do not wish for this poem to be clarity, I hope it entertained you.
