Burning Feet: Bildungsroman in a childhood lost to poverty

Alternate Title- Young Soles Hardened too Soon

Hot hot hot,
We all know today the roads burn
Like hellfire laid in cement,
Pavements burn,
I wouldn’t step out unless I had to
And from my comfortable tuktuk
I see a sorry sight
Inspiring yes but heart wrenching too
A young child, barely a teen
Selling something
(Flowers or gajras or pens
All have different wares)
Walking between cars stranded in a jam on the street
His bare soles must be burning
Yet he doesn’t limp
And my heart breaks
For a child, in this heat
Working bare feet,
And my head bows
With respect
To his tenacity.

Author’s Note: Thank you for putting up with the changes and my absence. We have now added a store where you can get e-books and eco-friendly paperbacks of my published, or you can wait to read it for free or on a pay what you want system on Muses_Saga, where we have already released one poem from my latest collection- The Bard’s Tale, also available for order on our store on this site. The work has around ten poems, I have written over several years, almost a decade, put together for your escape and entertainment. Hopefully some provoke thoughts as well. As always, thank you for being here and supporting sustainability and my writing.
