Looking for a Man

Just some thoughts inspired by recent violence against women.

Looking for a man

I take a walk through the streets
All I see are ghosts walking silently
Heads down, steps rushed
Trying to escape what I can’t see
In the afternoon sun
I’m blind, I feel
Out of touch from these beings
Until some caricatures step on the street
And the fear spikes, truly it does spike
They look human
Yet, their teeth are red,
Their hands covered in it too
Their eyes hold lust
But it’s not for those who have given them consent
But for power over those who aren’t interested in them
Their hands are like chainsaws
Ready to cut through me
And suddenly the ghost town
Makes sense
I rush home too
All the way looking for a man
Who would protect me when I can’t
Who would stand by me
Who would rely on me
Whose heart would be full of love
Whose smile a beacon of light
But somehow in the shadows of the caricatures
All I can see is ghosts and hunters
And not a man in sight.
