I turn 27 today,
And I blow the candles
Laugh with family and friends
A sense of gratitude covers me
For how difficult is it to reach late twenties?
In humanity’s tenure on Plant Earth
How many have died long before this time
Due to sickness, poverty, war, plague, hunger, cruelty, or just the natural passage of time?
I too will one day take my leave
Hopefully leaving behind a legacy
Of good and kind deeds
But that’s a soft death in a far future for me
And so I wonder as I celebrate
Another year of surviving, growing, laughing, and crying
How do I give back to the world
That though horrific
Also remains nourishing
Despite all attempts to sully it?
Author’s Note: Thank you for reading and hope this makes you smile. While we must all help, knowing what is viable for us is equally important, and I want to give a shoutout to creators, artists, NGOs, and genuinely sustainable companies that help make the world a better place and stand up for what is right. Currently I am working with Wear Equal, and they have a program called Banarasi which supports rural women. How cool is that? Let me know a brand you want to give a shout-out to in the comments! Once the Muses_Saga website is up, I will adding a new chapter to The Bard’s Tale as a token of gratitude for this community.
